Hours of Work: Based on the needs of people supported and may include days evening and weekends.

Bruce Peninsula Association for Community Living is looking for a highly motivated and committed leader to join our Support Services team.  Reporting to the Manager of Support Services, the Supervisor is responsible for the leadership and oversight of support programs within their portfolio in a manner which complies with provincial and federal legislation and standards. The focus of the work will be to ensure smooth operations and implement and establish systems that will ensure quality service delivery.  Specific functions include providing effective program monitoring and implementation, handling day to day operational issues, supervising an interdisciplinary team.

The Supervisors are required to perform their duties in a manner consistent with the Mission, Vision and Values of Bruce Peninsula Association for Community Living, and to create a safe and supportive environment for all people supported and staff within the agency.

 

To succeed as a supervisor, you will be able to demonstrate the ability to:

  • Understand developmental disabilities, mental health and complex diagnoses.
  • Monitor program operation in accordance with policies and procedures as well as compliance, with funder regulations and standards.
  • In cooperation with management team identify and implement best practices that can be shared throughout the department.
  • Support the staff teams in a timely and sensitive resolution of complaints and service provision issues.
  • Support scheduling requirements for the program/agency.
  • Assist with the on-call duties on a rotational basis.
  • Provide regular supervision and performance appraisals of support staff.
  • Provide support for the recruitment and orientation of new employees in the agency.
  • Identify and manage risk issues relating to the program as they arise, ensure immediate follow up and reporting any material concerns to management.
  • Act in a leadership capacity in the development of community partnerships with other service providers and other community agencies to expand community integration opportunities.
  • Operate in an effective, efficient and person-centered manner to achieve the best outcomes.
  • Ensure adherence to all aspects of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Fire Code for the department.
  • Ensure adherence of the implementation of fire and emergency drill procedures and review reports to ensure that follow up is completed as required.
  • Build strong relationships with supported people and their families/guardians.
  • Facilitate regular team meetings.
  • Participate in the development of Individual Support Plans and Positive Behaviour Support Plans.
  • Submit summary reports as required.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • BSW or DSW, or related degree/diploma.
  • A minimum of 3 years leadership experience in the developmental services or related sector. A combination of education and experience will also be considered.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Person-Centered Planning, MCCSS compliance standards and other related legislative requirements.
  • Demonstrated success in mentoring and coaching staff teams to achieve measurable outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and model positive change in an environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent skills in the use of technology and social media.
  • Have the ability to find creative and innovative solutions to challenging situations.
  • Exhibit interpersonal skills that endorse good ethics and integrity.

weekend.

The support worker supports people with developmental disabilities to live fully engaged lives in their homes and in the community. The support worker will work with the people they support to encourage them to live independent lives where they are able to complete daily tasks and responsibilities independently.

As a member of Bruce Peninsula Association for Community Living the Support Workers provide direct care and support to people receiving supports and services from Bruce Peninsula Association for Community Living. This position is responsible for promoting safety, security, dignity and respect to all people. Specifically, the role, responsibilities and activities of the position will be as follows:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work each day toward supporting people based on the mission, vision and value statements of Bruce Peninsula Association for Community Living;
  • Support each person as indicated by the person, their Individual Support Plan, Positive Behaviour Support Plan and any other protocols developed for the person supported;
  • Support people in areas needed or requested;
  • Accurately complete any required documentation;
  • Carry out established supports required for the health, safety and rights for the protection and promotion of each

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION CRITERIA

  • DSW/CYW and/or minimum of 1-year experience working with people with an intellectual disability;

  • Proven skills to appropriately manage crisis situations;
  • Proven understanding of ISPs, PBSPs, Medication Management and Controlled Act Protocols
  • Development and implementation of basic protocols;
  • Completion of a recognized pharmacology course is an asset;
  • Comfortable with web-based technologies, social media, communication programs;
  • Familiar with adaptive communication;
  • Clean driving record with 2 million liability insurance;

The Community Participation Support Worker works within a team to develop and implement community-based leisure, health and wellness programs and activities. The Support Worker encourages people to participate as active members of their community. The Support Worker is actively involved in the activities organized by the Community Participation team and will serve as a role model to the people we support and to community members.

Working as part of the Support team, you will support people with all aspects of daily living so they can be as active as they choose to be within the community and encouraging people to live independent lives where they are able to complete daily tasks and responsibilities independently.

As a Casual Support Worker, you will have the flexibility to determine your own schedule by picking up the shifts that work best for you which could include days, evenings, overnights and weekends.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establishing respectful relationships with people, recognizing their rights as citizens; promoting their dignity and well-being;
  • Assist people to develop informed decision- making skills and exercising of choices;
  • Support each person as indicated by the person in their Individual Support Plan, Positive Behaviour Support Plan and any other protocols developed by the person supported;
  • Carry out established supports required for the health, safety and rights for the protection and promotion of each person;
  • Provide support in a person’s home; preparing nutritional meals, administering medication, assisting with personal care and other areas as needed or requested;
  • Accurately complete any required documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a Developmental Services Worker Program/Social Services Worker Program/Personal Support Worker Program and/or minimum 1 -year experience working with people with an intellectual disability;
  • Strong written, verbal and non-verbal skills;
  • Team player with an ability to work independently;
  • Comfortable with web- based technology;
  • Current First Aid/CPR;
  • Valid Driver’s License;
